We use modern research & technology...

...to find descendants, heirs, and vintage records that might shed light on the past.

If you're looking for estate records or probate for an individual, we can help. The Los Angeles Archives and Records Center
includes holdings from 1910 to 2004. Types of cases include civil, family Law, criminal felony, probate, and juvenile records.

About us

As of March 1, 2020 this service is retired. The website remains online for legacy purposes and general queries. Please consult the Association of Professional Genealogists to hire someone to help you with your research.

Los Angeles holds a treasure of archival information. If you want to fill in gaps in your family history, find descendants, or search for heirs, local archives may provide the answer.

To help us help you, please provide as much information as you can: names, date of birth and/or date of death of the person whose records you hope to find. Not all residents in Los Angeles County left wills or probated records, but if available these documents can help you locate descendants and heirs to estates or property.

Local libraries also provide directories and phone books for many of the Southern California communities. These resources can help track family residences over time. These can be excellent resources for elusive folks who evaded the census.

A note regarding vital records

The Los Angeles Archives and Records Center does not include vital records such as birth certificates, marriage records, death records, property and real estate records. These documents are not available for same-day pick-up. They must be ordered online or by mail from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. You can save money by ordering these documents directly from their website.

Objectives

Moving forward with a research project may prove daunting at first, so let us help. An initial consultation is free of charge. We can offer extensive family research as needed, or provide simple look-ups for directory entries or probate records. Let us know what you need, or request a quote. Here's how.

Tell us what you already know: names, dates, locations if available. The more information you already have (birth/death dates, residence city, etc.) the easier we can locate the information you need. In most cases we can work with minimal information to start the research project.

Request a quote. For most projects we can provide an estimate of hours needed for your project or look-up. If a retainer is needed to start the research, we'll let you know. You can pay easily via PayPal.

.

Once final payment is complete we can scan or send paper copies of the resulting materials. Most copies will be informational. If you need certified copies please tell us when outlining your research needs. If you have any questions about our methods or research, feel free to ask.
